IHG Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong - review staycation + mooncake limited edition

Hotel Indigo is the world’s first globally branded boutique hotel brand by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG®) and no two hotels around the world are alike. Each hotel is designed to highlight the essence of local culture, character and history of its neighbourhood through its design, food & beverage, amenities and services.

Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong showcase the local rich heritage and vibrant culture of the Peranakans (Straits-born Chinese). Incorporating the colourful charm of the eclectic neighbourhood into its architecture and design in the 131 room modern 16-storey building, the award winning hotel features a rooftop infinity pool, offering panoramic scenic Singapore Skyline with stunning sunset views and a conserved 1928 heritage building which was the former Joo Chiat Police Station, houses all day dining, Baba Chews Bar and restaurant.

Just a short 15-minute drive from Singapore Changi Airport and steps away from the upcoming new Marine Parade MRT Station, Hotel Indigo is in close proximity to Singapore’s award-winning dining and local eats to iconic shopping at Marina Bay Sands, Orchard Road and sightseeing attractions like Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay, Civic District and Bugis street.

Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong is part of IHG Green Engage System and a Green Engage Hotel, demonstrating innovative approaches to sustainability. Staying here means you play a part in the worldwide effort to protect the environment.

In collaboration with Singapore Tourism Board, Hotel Indigo participated in Go Green SG led by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment. Hotel guests and workshop participants learnt how to create eco friendly beeswax wrap to reduce plastic consumption and upcycled used coffee grounds to make body scrub, contributing to a sustainable environment.

The greenery vertical garden facade evokes cheerful moods as you step into the bright and airy lobby reception with a distinctive feature wall collages of Peranakan ceramic patterns and intricately-painted pop-art water jars.

Choose from TWG iced tea or Common Man Coffee Roasters ice latte as your welcome drink when you check in.

The adjoined Pavilion is bedecked with Peranakan-inspired furniture, ceramics and Singapore-centric souvenirs, local Artisan crafts, bath amenities and snacks akin to pop-up ‘mama stall’ of small convenience stalls located in Singapore housing estates in the 1960s.

Hotel Indigo X Triologie Majulah! Collection

As a tribute to Singapore National Day, Hotel Indigo X Triologie "Majulah!" by Singapore Fashion Designer Sylvia Lim retailing at The Emporium is a collection of dresses in fabric prints that pay homage to the Peranakan culture and Singapore local community scenes like HDB estates.

Hotel Indigo Infinity Pool at Rooftop Bar 88

One of the hotel’s popular amenity feature is its Roof top with infinity pool located on the 16th floor that offers stunning panoramic views of Singapore’s first heritage town consisting mainly of low-rise shop-houses and apartment buildings. You can also catch scenic sunsets here while chilling in the cool vibe.

If swimming or sunbathing are not your usual activities, lounge yourself at the poolside dining area where you can enjoy the birds eyes' view while sipping cocktails, drinks and indulging in delectable food from Rooftop 88 Bar & Eatery.

You can catch a glimpse of the National Day Parade when the Singapore Air Force perform aerial flypast across the city skyline and fireworks in the distance at the Marina Bay Area.

New Year's Eve Countdown Party (December 31), Chinese Lunar New Year Countdown Parties, National Day Parade rehearsals (every Saturdays in July) and National Day (August 9) are some of the occasions for fireworks viewing in Singapore.

Alternatively, enjoy the skyline as you work out at the 24-hour gym which is furnished with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, located parallel to the pool.

Hotel Indigo Guest Room and In-room dining service

The Peranakan theme is tastefully incorporated in the archway, hallway, doors of the guest rooms and the room itself.

The laid-back style with sofa and carom board as a table against the monotone art murals of Katong Joo Chiat community cultural lifestyle with the essence of Peranakan home of tiled pattern floors, panels, King size bed with flora and white beddings, old school cabinet with Illy coffee machine, TWG tea and mini bar fridge is a modern contrast.

Slide open the glass sliding door that opens up to a separate bath area with dragon phoenix motif round bathtub with silver taps, vintage style vanity area and rain bath shower.

Sustainability is in the heart of Hotel Indigo where reusable sanitised Green Engage bottles with protective pouch are used for drinking water and guests are encouraged to reuse the glass bottles to refill complimentary filtered water from the dispenser, located just by the entrance of the hotel lobby.

The Australian Biology Smart Skincare bath amenities with pH balanced formula and ocean-safe ingredients are housed in refillable pump bottles made from recyclable materials and helps to reduce plastics and wastage from the usual small bottles of grooming toiletries.

For a stress-free evening, order the in-room service dining from the Baba Chews menu.

Chilli crab tagliatelle with soft shell crab, Baba churros cinnamon with pandan dulche and coconut icecream and a glass of Yuzu Frizz cocktail with Tempus Two Silver Series Sauvignon Blanc 2022 sets the mood for a relaxing night to slumber off to sleep in the plush kingsize bed.

Hotel Indigo Garden Pet Friendly Dining and Staycation

Another brownie point at Hotel Indigo is its “paws-friendly” alfresco garden bar that currently features a collaboration with iconic bittersweet aperitif, Aperol Spritz, a cosy pop-up counter offering a delightful menu of light bites which are curated to pair perfectly with Aperol Spritz cocktails, beers and wines while lounging in colourful deck chairs, relaxing bean bags that could accommodate diners with pets to lepak (Singapore Slang for chill).

If you like to have a Hotel Indigo pet-cation, there is a dedicated floor for pet lovers to stay with their small size pets, dine and relax in Hotel Indigo Garden.

Other hotel amenities include complimentary Wi-Fi, a self-service business centre, a ballroom and 2 function rooms that can accommodate 20-70 people meetings and conferences, providing audio-visual equipment and catering services.
